Bespoke wedding rings - handmade in Glasgow

I love making wedding rings and being apart of a couples special day but also feel honoured to be chosen to make such a seminal piece of jewellery

Read below the stages of commissioning a set of Wedding rings.

Are you getting married this year and looking for some handmade wedding rings?

We are heading in the wedding season and as some of you may know I am planning my own wedding this year. Never have I appreciated the level of stress an event like this can cause and having a positive experience along the way is much appreciated.

Being apart of a couples special day is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job and being able to guide and advise to take some of the stress out of decision making is all part of the service.

A little bit about the process…

I like to start the bespoke wedding ring process by meeting the couple

I like to start the bespoke wedding ring process by meeting the couple, and ascertain what they are looking for in a ring, whether this is a shaped ring to sit alongside an engagement ring, whether they have some metal they would like to re-purpose or just simply taking some of the anxiety out of wearing a ring for the first time.

I have a wide selection of silver and gold samples to try at this initial phase to see if there are any preferences. We take your ring size and from this meeting can go away and put together some quotes or develop more designs depending on the design of the ring.

Step two is finalising designs, prices and going ahead and making the rings. I normally take a 50% deposit at this phase with the remainder collected upon completion. I like to give a 5-6 week lead time for this depending on the metal, process etc.

It is also at this stage that we can discuss engraving which can be done in one of the last phases of the ring making. I also send the rings to be Hallmarked - more information about this can be found below.

Hallmarking

Hallmarking is a legal requirement in the UK. There are normally 5 marks punched or layered onto your ring which include my makers mark with is a HM in an oval, the standard numerical mark which shows the carat of the metal, the fineness mark which depict the metal in a symbol, where it has been assayed which in my case is Edinburgh and the date depicted in a letter.

The hallmark will be featured on the inside of your ring however if you would like to make a feature of it on the outside, we can of course arrange this.

Lastly, we come to the finish of the ring. I do a variety of finishes on my jewellery, a favourite being heavily distressed. In the sampling phase I show examples of each finish we can do however if you change your mind this is the last phase of the ring making so is easy to change.

Your rings are presented in Heather McDermott jewellery boxes with a hand written note of thanks. If there are any blemishes or tarnishing between the collection and your big day I can re-polish/re-finish free of charge.

Here are some examples of sets of wedding bands I’ve worked on. If you’d like more information about bespoke wedding rings then please get in touch below.
