Collect Art Fair

Collect Art Fair - Previews 28-29 February - 1-3 March open to public

I was delighted to announce last year that I was selected to exhibit at Collect Art Fair with Craft Scotland. Collect is the leading international fair for contemporary craft and design and this year marks its 20th year. The fair will be hosted at Somerset House this year which acts as the perfect venue in the heart of London.

I have exhibited at Collect before with Craft Scotland in 2018 and I knew I would love the chance to participate again. It is a wonderful opportunity to develop my work and make new pieces I wouldn’t normally have the chance to make.

I am exhibiting alongside 11 other makers from across Scotland. Each one completely unique and featuring materials such as seaweed, wood, textiles, rock, ceramic and so much more. It will be a really exciting dipslay and definitely worth a visit if you are in London! You can read about the different makers HERE

Process and development

For the first time in a long time I have used a sketchbook to map out my pieces for Collect. I have always worked backwards where I see a final piece in my head and then work back the way to the research and developmental drawings. I knew I wanted to use certain materials - stainless steel, 18ct gold, silver and pearls - within this body of work and also have a cohesive shape and theme running throughout. I have experimented more with the sense of depth and my ‘cluster’ effect where I build layers of material on top of each other to create something completely one-off and unique.

My inspiration as always has stemmed from my island home however the move to Callander has definitely seen me experiment more with textures which I see in the landscape here. Fishing nets, flotsam washed ashore and the everchanging shoreline of Skye will always be at the core of my designs but I’m discovering new shapes, textures and how the landscape around the Trossachs influences my work.
