A Trio of Rings & Bespoke pendant
It has been a lovely start to the year working on commissions and returning to the bench with a bit more sleep and energy behind me
Jo
Jo came to me last year with a collection of rings she had inherited from her mother, along with a few others gathered over time. It was a beautiful selection of 9ct and 18ct gold pieces.
Jo is a long-standing and valued customer who has collected many of my designs over the years, so it was a pleasure to sit down together and talk through what she wanted from these rings. We discussed the styles she’s drawn to and how they might align with my existing collections.
From there, I began designing a selection of pieces, guided by the weight of gold available. Jo was also keen to incorporate a pendant into the project, so I developed a range of ideas for both rings and a necklace.
We ultimately decided on three rings: one in my scatter stacking style, and two bespoke designs inspired by a pair of hoops I already make in silver.
The first step was to carefully dismantle the original rings to assess the stones, as these would be incorporated into the final designs. I always create a silver master for each piece, both as a prototype and as something that can be shared with the client if needed. Once approved, the pieces were cast in gold.
The finished collection came together beautifully. One of the rings, crafted in 9ct gold, features a distressed texture, a finish I’ve recently been exploring, contrasted with a highly polished raised band running through the centre. It has a lovely, weighty feel.
This sits alongside a more delicate silver band, accented with an 18ct gold line and set with a central diamond. This stone was taken from Jo’s mother’s engagement ring, making it especially meaningful.
The third ring is a 9ct gold scatter design, set with smaller diamonds from the original pieces.
The remaining 9ct gold was used to create a silver pendant, set with sapphires and the final diamonds, ensuring that every element of the original jewellery was thoughtfully reimagined and preserved.
