Future Heirlooms

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of creating a special piece of jewellery for Kevin and Linda to celebrate Linda’s 70th birthday and the many journeys they had shared along the Camino de Santiago.

In February, they returned with another wonderful commission. Linda is a twin and had been gifted a brooch set with garnets, a piece she no longer wore but held great sentimental value. Her wish was to give the brooch a new life by transforming it into meaningful gifts for the next generation: a pair of earrings for each of her daughters and a pendant for her granddaughter.

The brooch contained nine garnets in graduating sizes, which provided plenty of creative possibilities. I developed a selection of designs, incorporating one or two stones into different earring styles and using the smallest stone in a pendant.

Once Kevin and Linda had reviewed the designs, we met to refine and personalise them, ensuring each piece reflected the individual style of its recipient. The result was a collection of unique designs.

One daughter chose a minimalist pair of earrings featuring offset garnets, designed to complement her own daughter’s pendant when the time comes for her to inherit both pieces. The second pair of earrings combined elements from my Circle Cluster Studs and Mini Buoy Cluster Studs, creating a distinctive cluster design with plenty of character.

This was a truly rewarding commission to work on, I love breathing new life into a treasured family heirloom and creating future heirlooms that can be cherished for generations to come.
