A Combined Wedding & Engagement Ring, Reborn from Heirloom Gold
F came to me at the start of the year with a gorgeous selection of heirloom jewellery that she wanted to repurpose into a combined wedding and engagement ring.

Finding the Starting Point
We first looked around the shop at my current collection and previous commissions, including a couple of pieces I'd made in the past in a shield-style setting, to help F start thinking about shapes and styles. This Drifted Cluster ring was a source of inspiration for the final piece.
Choosing the Stones
We then discussed which stones she wanted to use. Among her jewellery was a beautiful gold bangle set with rubies and old-cut diamonds, and she wanted to combine these diamonds with one from an old engagement ring, bringing two sentimental pieces together into one.
Designing the Ring
I put together a selection of design options based on everything we'd discussed. F chose a design with a central stone surrounded by six of the old-cut diamonds, in an intricate cluster style.
From Silver Master to Gold Cast
The ring was first made in silver, I always create a silver master to cast from in the customer's own gold, which in this case turned out to be 14 carat, reclaimed from the bangle.
Once cast, the ring came back from my casters to be cleaned up, and the stones were set in a rub-over setting.

The Finished Piece
The finished ring is an absolute showstopper, a gorgeous statement piece, and the perfect way to combine two truly sentimental pieces of jewellery into something F can wear every day.
